More than 100 models are walking the ramp in the fashion weeks in Delhi. But one supermodel is missing — Meghna Mathur of Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion. Otherwise known to admiring millions as Priyanka Chopra. While some sources claim that Bhandarkar is wary of facing the fashion fraternity, the reality is different: the lead actresses are walking the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai, starting on October 21.

“Kangana [Ranaut], Mughda [Godse] and I are walking the ramp for Narendra Kumar Ahmed, in LFW,” confirms Priyanka. Ahmed, along with Rita Dhody, has styled the film’s look. She will, however, promote the film in Delhi later. Fashion is perceived to be a sensational take on the glamour industry. However, Bhandarkar has tried assuaging fears that it shows the industry in a bad light. Priyanka has corroborated this.
“There’s no hidden agenda in Fashion. It’s no big exposé. It’s an emotional tale and the story of three girls — very endearing. It shows female bonding in a beautiful way, something not shown in film industry for long,” the actress said, speaking exclusively to HT City during a recent visit here to promote the Nokia Supernova. Recently, the film was in news for getting an A certificate. It shows the reality of the life of models — from models snorting cocaine to a gay designer, Fashion shows it all. “The film showcases reality, but nothing in the film has been sensationalised or glorified,” said Priyanka.
Gay cool

After Fashion, she will be seen in Dostana, in which Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham pretend to be gay. About the actors’ off-camera bonding, she said, “They would call each other baba. Baba gym chalein, ‘Baba, let’s go there’.” Her opinion on gay issues is clear: “I am all for gay rights and pride. We live in democratic society. To each his own.
We have cultures and tradition, but we also value our individuality. It’s about being, and letting the people be.” Priyanka has seen the gay world up close. “My best friend in the US was gay. His name was Sam, and he called himself Samantha. He was great guy. I had to go to the prom, and couldn’t afford a dress. So, I borrowed his drag dress and shoes. It was a lovely dress and the best shoes I’ve ever worn.”
